Cal/OSHA crew toilet rules

How many toilets does your crew need? The short version for California job sites.

§1526 construction

1 toilet per 20 workers

Title 8 §1526: 1 toilet per 20 employees of each sex. Urinals may replace up to half of them.

Small crews

Under 5 workers?

Fewer than 5 employees on site? One single-occupancy unit is allowed.

Our yard's rule

1 unit per ~10 workers

On a 40-hour week, we plan 1 unit serviced weekly for about every 10 workers. It keeps lines short.

§3457 farms

Field crews: toilet + sink

1 toilet and 1 handwash per 20 workers, within a ¼-mile walk or 5 minutes. Keep service records 2 years.

§3395 heat

Water, shade, high-heat plan

Water: 1 quart per worker per hour. Shade over 80°F. High-heat steps at 95°F. Beaumont July highs average 96.3°F.

Service

Weekly service included

Job-site units get pumped, cleaned, sanitized and restocked each week. Billed every 28 days from delivery.
